TUESDAY, FIRST WEEK OF LENT
Enough for Each Day
Give us this day our daily bread. —Matthew 6:11
Jesus knew the story of his ancestors, the Israelites, who wandered in the desert for 40 years. He knew God fed them with manna each day. He also knew that if they tried to gather extra and save it up (except for the Sabbath), it attracted worms and became inedible. The Israelites learned to trust that God would feed them each day, but not ahead of time. Jesus’ disciples would have had that story in mind when Jesus taught them to ask for what they needed each day. We also are invited to ask for the same, trusting that God will provide for us daily, but not necessarily ahead of time.
FOR REFLECTION:
Looking back on this past year, what form has your daily bread come in some days? How has God been feeding you?
