Psalm 62:1-8

Journeying through the Psalms

Psalm 62:1-8

Trust God.

David offers a supreme description of pure trust in God. The Psalm has three parts, the first part confesses reliance on God, the second part speaks of trust and hope, and the last part explains why this is possible.

This is such a beautiful declaration of David’s total dependence upon God. And David speaks to the righteous, encouraging them to rely on God. What is true of the king, is expanded to include the whole family of God.

David expressed his feelings to God and then reaffirmed his faith. Prayer can release our tensions in times of emotional stress. Trusting God to be our rock, salvation and fortress will change our entire outlook on life. No longer must we be held captive by resentment towards others when they hurt us. When we are resting in God’s strength, nothing can shake us.

Place all your hope in God. Knowing that God is in control allows us to wait patiently for him to rescue us. True relief does not come when the problem is resolved, because more problems are on the way! True relief comes from an enduring hope in God’s ultimate salvation. Only then will all trials be resolved.

Let us pray:

When we call out to You, O Lord,
And wait for answers to our prayer,
Give us the patience that we need
And help us sense Your love and care.

Amen
